Dennis Wilson - Pacific Ocean Blue (1977)

Dennis Wilson - Pacific Ocean Blue (1977)

A friend turned me on to this album when I was attending college. Thank you. Tales of the rock n roll lifestyle, lost love, womanizing, and odes to environmentalism over some beautifully produced 1970s pop songs. Somber songs with almost ambient-sounding soundscapes transition into full on coked-out rockers. Dennis' voice, though not perfect, is filled with authenticity. You can tell he lived this shit. Best enjoyed with a baggie of cocaine.

Dennis planned to follow up Pacific Ocean Blue with an album titled Caribou. Some unfinished Caribou tracks are included here as well. Make sure to check out Holy Man - Taylor Hawkins of the Foo Fighters laid down some dope vocal that sound amazingly like Dennis Wilson.

Rest in Peace

Fury - Paramount (2016)

Fury - Paramount (2016) (Triple B)

Paramount has arrived and Fury are back to kick down the damn door. While I have heard rumblings of the band since their inception in 2014, I’ll be the first to tell you that I am very guilty of sleeping on their past two releases. This is a tried and true hardcore record, and it grabbed me in a way that contemporary hardcore LPs have failed to do in the past five years or so. It’s possible that I’m just in the mood for this sort of thing, but man did this record hit the spot!

I can hear Burn, Bad Brains, Turning Point, and Uniform Choice in their sound. Make no mistake – Fury’s sound remains surprisingly musical considering that this is a record that is not afraid to pummel you. When both guitars are riffing in unison, it is hard to deny that something special is happening. The songwriting here is excellent, and I especially like the way the songs are woven together to really flow cohesively. This shit right here is so powerful and passionate. My favorite album from last year.
